IN THIS TEACHING

In The Universe, Mark Griffin presents a sweeping vision of reality that situates individual consciousness within an immense continuum of world systems, realms, and the boundless Ocean of Consciousness. Drawing from the insights of The Perfection of Wisdom, the teaching emphasizes the inseparable relationship between form and emptiness—revealing that all phenomena arise as transient expressions of an underlying, beginningless field of awareness.

Griffin describes reality as a dynamic interplay of interdependent causes, perception, and collective consciousness. What appears as a stable world is, in fact, a constantly shifting field of imputed experience shaped by karmic momentum and shared patterns of awareness. This perspective deepens the nondual insights explored in Everything & Nothing, where form is understood as empty and emptiness as the true substance of existence.

Within this cosmology, the human world—often referred to as a realm of endurance—is one of countless domains within a vast network of universes. These realms are governed by cause and effect, sustained by the accumulated actions, perceptions, and intentions of sentient beings. Enlightened beings—Buddhas, bodhisattvas, and realized masters—are described as functioning across these layers of reality, acting as conduits through which the light of awareness is transmitted into the manifest world.

A central emphasis of the teaching is the role of cause and effect as the engine of experience. Emotional tone, desire, and repetitive mental patterns generate karmic cycles that perpetuate identity and perception. These mechanisms align closely with the processes described in Modifications of the Mind, where conditioned thought and memory construct the illusion of a stable self and world.

Liberation, in this framework, arises through cessation—the stilling of mental activity and the dissolution of moment-to-moment cognitive formation. As the mind becomes quiet, karmic momentum begins to release, and perception clarifies. Through practices such as meditation and attention to the SoHam current, the practitioner begins to recognize that the universe is not external, but an expression arising within consciousness itself.

Ultimately, The Universe reframes existence as an inward realization rather than an outward exploration. The vastness of the cosmos is revealed not as something separate from the individual, but as a projection within awareness. In this recognition, the human form is understood as a precise instrument for awakening—capable of perceiving, integrating, and ultimately transcending the structures of reality through direct realization of consciousness.
