Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Awakening Archives?

The Awakening Archives is a growing digital library of teachings by meditation master Mark Griffin. The archive currently includes audio teachings, written materials, and content on the topics of meditation, Kundalini, Tantra, Guru Lineage, and the nature of consciousness. Additionally, the archive contains a FREE, self-paced course entitled, The Foundations of Spiritual Practice.

The purpose of the archive is to make Mark Griffin’s teachings available to students, practitioners, and sincere seekers who want to study deeply and practice at their own pace.

Where should I begin?

A good place to begin is the free course: Foundations of Spiritual Practice

This course introduces essential principles and practices that support deeper study throughout the archive. It is self-paced and can be used whether you are new to meditation or returning to foundational practice.

After the free course, you may wish to explore the archive by Topic, Browse the full library, or Search for a specific teaching, practice, or concept.

Is the free course really free?

Yes. The Foundations of Spiritual Practice course is free and self-paced.

You can move through the lessons at your own rhythm. Each module is designed to introduce a core principle or practice and prepare you for deeper engagement with Mark Griffin’s broader body of teachings.

After the free course, you may wish to explore the archive by Topic, Browse the full library, or Search for a specific teaching, practice, or concept.

Do I need experience with meditation or Tantra to use the site?

No. Some teachings are introductory, while others are more advanced. If you are new, start with the free course and the Meditation topic area.

If you already have a practice background, you may want to explore specific areas such as Kundalini, Guru Yoga, Pranayama, Samadhi, or Non-Duality.

Using the Archive

What is the difference between Explore, Browse, and Search?

The site offers three main ways to find teachings:

Explore
Browse
Search

Each one is useful in a different way.

What is Explore?

Explore is a guided way to move through the archive by major topic and category.

Use Explore when you want a curated path into the teachings.

The main Explore topics are:

Meditation
Kundalini
Tantra
Guru Lineage
Nature of Consciousness

Within each area, teachings are grouped into more specific categories. For example, under Meditation you will find categories such as Pranayama, Concentration, Pratyahara, and Stopping the Mind.

Explore is a good choice if you are not sure exactly what you are looking for yet.

What is Browse?

Browse lets you filter the full Teaching library using structured taxonomies.

You can browse by:

Topic
Category
Keyword
Teaching Type
Year
Event / Series
City / State
Venue

Browse is useful when you want to narrow the archive by a specific type of information.

For example, you might use Browse to find:

all Kundalini teachings teachings from a specific year teachings connected to a retreat or series teachings on a specific keyword teachings given in a specific city

What is Search?

Search is best when you are looking for a specific word, phrase, title, practice, or teaching concept.

You can search for terms such as:

nirvikalpa samadhi
kundalini shakti
guru yoga
apana
so-ham
blue pearl
cessation

Search looks across Teaching titles, descriptions, quotes, keywords, and full teaching text.

The Search page also includes Advanced Search, which lets you search for an exact phrase, require certain words, or exclude words you do not want included. Use Advanced Search when your first search gives too many results or when you want to refine the archive more carefully.

Which should I use first: Explore, Browse, or Search?

If you are new to the archive, start with:

Free Course → Explore → Browse → Search

A simple path might look like this:

  1. Use Search when you are looking for a specific teaching, term, or practice.
  2. Begin with the free Foundations course.
  3. Use Explore to get oriented by major topic.
  4. Use Browse to narrow the library.

Teachings and Membership

What is included in a Teaching?

A Teaching page may include:

Teaching title
Description
Topic and category information
Date or year
Duration
A quote from the teaching
Audio access, when available
PDF transcript, when available
Bookstore link

Some media is publicly visible, such as in the free course, while other audio and PDF materials may require membership.

Why can I read a Teaching description but not access the audio or PDF?

The public part of a Teaching page gives an overview of the teaching. Full audio and PDF access is reserved for members.

If you are not logged in, you may see a prompt to log in or become a member.

What does membership include?

Membership gives access to protected Teaching materials, including available audio and PDFs.

The exact membership offering may change as the archive develops, but the main purpose is to provide access to the digital Teaching library.

I am logged in. Why can’t I see the member materials?

First, make sure you are logged into the account connected to your membership.

If you still cannot see member materials, possible causes include:

  • your membership may have expired
  • you may be logged into a different account
  • your membership may not have been activated
  • the Teaching may not yet have audio or PDF material available

Try logging out and logging back in. If the issue continues, contact support.

Do all Teachings include audio and PDFs?

Not necessarily. The archive is growing over time, and some Teachings may have audio, some may have PDFs, some may have both, and some may still be awaiting additional materials.

If a Teaching does not show audio or PDF materials, it may not have been fully added to the digital library yet.

Audio and PDF Help

Why won’t the audio play?

If audio does not play, try these steps:

  • Refresh the page.
  • Make sure you are logged in as a member.
  • Try a different browser.
  • Check your internet connection.
  • Disable browser extensions that may block media playback.
  • Try again on another device.

If the audio player appears but does not start, the temporary media link may have expired or failed to load. Refreshing the page will usually request a new secure media link.

Why did the audio stop working after I left the page open?

For security reasons, audio links are temporary. If you leave a page open for a long time, the media link may expire.

Refresh the page and press play again.

Why won’t the PDF open?

If a PDF does not open:

  1. Refresh the page.
  2. Make sure you are logged in as a member.
  3. Allow popups or new tabs for the site.
  4. Try a different browser.
  5. Try opening the PDF again.

PDFs will open in your browser’s built-in PDF viewer. Different browsers display PDFs differently.

The PDF opened in a new tab. Is that normal?

Yes. PDFs will open in a new browser tab using your browser’s native PDF viewer.

Can I print or download PDFs?

PDF materials are intended for reading and study within your browser.

Please respect the teachings and use the materials for personal study.

Course Help

How does the Foundations course work?

The Foundations of Spiritual Practice course is a self-paced introduction to core principles of meditation and spiritual practice. You can move through the course modules in order or return to specific modules as needed.

Do I need to finish the course before using the archive?

No. You can explore the archive at any time.

However, if you are new to Mark Griffin’s teachings or new to meditation practice, the Foundations course is the best starting point.

Can I repeat course modules?

Yes. The course is self-paced, and the modules are meant to be revisited. Many teachings become clearer through repeated listening, reflection, and practice.

Study Guidance

How should I approach the teachings?

Move slowly and thoughtfully. These teachings are not only informational; they are meant to support practice, contemplation, and transformation.

A helpful approach is:

listen reflect practice return

You may find it useful to take notes, repeat a teaching, or sit quietly after listening.

What if I do not understand a teaching right away?

That is normal. Many teachings unfold over time.

You can return to foundational topics, search for related terms, or explore another teaching in the same category. Some material may become clearer after more practice or repeated listening.

Are the teachings organized in a required order?

Not always. The free course has a suggested sequence, but the archive itself is designed for both guided exploration and independent study.

You can follow a topic, search by concept, browse by year or event, or return to teachings that speak directly to your current practice.

Technical Questions

Which browser should I use?

The site should work in current versions of major browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.

If something does not work, try updating your browser or testing in another browser.

Why does the site look different on my phone?

The site is responsive, which means the layout changes for phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop screens.

On smaller screens, images and text sections may stack vertically instead of appearing side by side.

What should I do if something looks broken?

Try:

  1. Refreshing the page.
  2. Clearing your browser cache.
  3. Trying a different browser.
  4. Trying on another device.
  5. Logging out and back in if the issue is membership-related.

If the problem continues, contact support and include:
