IN THIS TEACHING

In The Grace Waves of Guru Yoga, Mark Griffin frames Guru Yoga as a living, inter-dimensional practice of communion with the Guru—an act of mysticism that reaches through time and space to touch the presence of awakened consciousness. Offered as part of a Guru Shakti Intensive honoring the 100-year anniversary of Bhagawan Muktananda’s birth, the session presents Guru Yoga not as devotion in the ordinary sense, but as a precise spiritual technology: a method for establishing direct contact with the Guru-principle and the lineage-stream that makes awakening inevitable.

At the heart of the teaching is the idea of grace waves—subtle transmissions of instruction and awakening that flow from realized beings. These grace waves are described as a spiritual “frequency” one can learn to attune to, and they form a kind of inner language of the spirit: brief, potent, and continuous. Griffin emphasizes that we are struck by such transmissions many times, but because consciousness is often trapped in the “fantasmagoria” of conditioned perception, these communications are frequently received below the threshold of ordinary awareness. Meeting an incarnate agency of the Guru Shakti—a living teacher through whom that force moves—becomes a rare opportunity to learn the language of grace waves consciously, gaining access to ongoing guidance that persists even when the outer form of the teacher is absent.

Griffin situates Muktananda as a major historical carrier of the Vajrayana transmission—one who brought the “thunderbolt” of Shaktipat into new cultural terrain—and describes how the Guru’s activity continues beyond physical death. The session introduces Siddhaloka as a dimension of realized beings and lineage intelligences, presenting the Guru not as a personality bound to one lifetime but as an operational presence within a vast mandala of awakened forces acting in concert. In this view, Shaktipat is not sustained by individual power alone, but by the combined force of lineage, which makes large-scale transmission possible without depletion.

Practically, the session teaches a central Guru Yoga maneuver: calling the Guru to the crown of the head to activate the sahasrar and establish a circuit of communication. The practitioner uses breath (including deep bellows breathing), the natural mantra of So Ham, and the felt force of love to draw the Guru’s presence into the crown—where the Guru Shakti enters the “vase” of the human form—and to merge into a single taste of awareness. The sahasrar is described as an interface with the “true universe,” outside time and space, whose activation both receives grace waves and awakens the inner architecture of realization. A key principle is that the “external guru of cause” and the “internal guru of action” are not separate, but two aspects of one continuum of awakening.

Throughout, Griffin returns to a defining assertion of the Siddha path: once Shaktipat has occurred, awakening is not a question of if, but when. The practitioner’s choices shape the timeline, but the Guru’s touch is portrayed as an absolute force that does not release the disciple until realization is fulfilled—whether in this life, across decades of practice, or at the moment of death when the Great Light appears. The session closes by affirming Guru Yoga as both profoundly cosmic and deeply intimate—a birthday celebration that becomes, simultaneously, a living contact with the timeless Guru, the lineage, and the grace that awakens consciousness from within.
