IN THIS TEACHING

In Love Is An Act of Will, Mark Griffin presents a precise and transformative teaching on karma, purification, and the conscious cultivation of love (bodhicitta) as a direct path to awakening. Delivered at the culmination of a Guru Yoga cycle of transmission, the teaching frames spiritual life as an ongoing process of dharmic purification, in which exposure to spiritual light reveals and transforms the deepest patterns of the psyche.

At the center of the teaching is a clear diagnosis: human behavior is largely governed by samskaric conditioning—habitual emotional and psychological patterns embedded within the subtle body (nadis, chakras, and the central channel). These patterns manifest as automatic cycles of reaction—attachment, aversion, and delusion—continually reinforcing ego-identity and karmic repetition. Through meditation, Shaktipat, and sustained contact with the Guru, the practitioner develops the witness state, gaining the capacity to observe these patterns rather than unconsciously enact them.

From this awareness arises the central instruction: interrupt the pattern.

Griffin reframes the spiritual path as an active, moment-to-moment intervention in the mechanics of karma. When reactive states arise—fear, anger, judgment, or contraction—the practitioner is called to consciously redirect the inner current. This is where the teaching’s core principle emerges:
love is not a feeling—it is an act of will.

Rather than defaulting to conditioned responses, one deliberately generates dharmic qualities—compassion, patience, generosity, equanimity, humility—thereby altering the energetic and psychological structure of experience. In doing so, the practitioner dissolves karmic momentum and replaces reactive patterns with conscious, awakened response.

Griffin situates this process within the deeper field of bodhicitta, the awakened heart-mind in which all four bodies find equilibrium. Love becomes both the method and the expression of realization—a force that harmonizes the individual with the Ocean of Consciousness and the fabric of creation itself. The traditional “three poisons” (attachment, aversion, delusion) are countered by their dharmic opposites, all expressions of love, which stabilize awareness and clarify perception.

Ultimately, Love Is An Act of Will presents awakening as a disciplined, embodied practice: recognizing conditioned patterns, applying insight, and consciously choosing love in real time. Supported by the grace of the Guru and the force of purification, this practice gradually transforms karma, reorganizes identity, and aligns the practitioner with the light of awakened consciousness.
