“The idea of the Guru is one of inconceivable vastness, in that it originally arises as the first reflex of the Self. We think of the idea of God, Guru, and Self arising simultaneously. This is the simplest and most direct way to think of it…”
Meditation Master Mark Griffin
In Guru Yoga, Mark Griffin presents Guru Yoga as a direct experiential path of awakening—aligning body, speech, and mind with the living presence of the Guru and the Siddha lineage, both inwardly and outwardly. Part of a month-long sadhana held in remembrance of Swami Muktananda Paramahamsa’s mahasamadhi cycle, the teaching emphasizes that Guru Yoga is not a belief system but a technology of transmission. Through sustained contact with the Guru principle, refined breath practice, mantra, and subtle-body awareness, the practitioner enters mystical contact with Guru Shakti—the force of illumination that increases light and dissolves darkness—revealing awakening as an intrinsic movement of consciousness within the individual.
The core practice centers on the Soham current and the bellows breath, used to open the central channel (sushumna) and assemble the energetic mandala of the Guru. Griffin describes the seat of the Guru’s presence at the crown of the head—symbolized by the subtle triangle and the red-white drops—while the Kundalini at the base of the spine rises to meet the descending current of grace. As Guru Shakti flows through sushumna and along ida and pingala, it clears karmic obstruction, intensifies awareness, and activates the subtle architecture of the chakras, channels, currents, and bindu. Over time, alternating descent and ascent stabilize into a continuous circuit of awakening that transforms identity at its root.
Throughout the teaching, Guru Yoga is framed as accelerated spiritual evolution—an intelligence of consciousness that teaches from within, destabilizes habitual identity, and invites surrender into the living process of awakening. Griffin links Guru Yoga to the universal Tantric insight that God, Guru, and Self arise simultaneously, suggesting that awakening is not created but recognized through lineage transmission. In this view, the Guru is not external authority but the radiant continuity of consciousness itself, expressed through time, tradition, and direct realization.
