"Today we are going to swim in the nature of the Awakener. We're going to flow in the nature of the Eagle. The energy of the Awakener, of the Eagle, is infinite times infinite. Once you become embedded in its stream, you become a part of it, like the drop merging with the ocean."
Meditation Master Mark Griffin
In The Awakener — Guided Meditation, Mark Griffin presents a direct path into natural awareness through deep relaxation, surrender, and non-doing. Rather than emphasizing effort, control, or structured concentration, the meditation guides the practitioner into a Dzogchen-like recognition of awareness—where awakening emerges through openness and the release of all forms of holding across body, energy, and mind.
The teaching centers on the experience of the “Awakener,” symbolized as an infinite field of consciousness into which the practitioner gradually merges. This field is not external, but the very ground of awareness itself—revealed as attention relaxes and identification with the separate self begins to dissolve. This experiential entry point reflects the realization described in The Natural State, but approached here through direct meditative immersion.
A central method of the practice is total relaxation across the four bodies—physical, subtle energetic, mental, and supracausal. The practitioner releases tension into gravity, allows pranic movement to settle within the central channel, and relinquishes psychological identification with the sense of “I.” Rather than manipulating energy or forcing concentration, the meditation emphasizes saturation: allowing consciousness to fill and permeate the entire system naturally.
The spontaneous vibration of the SoHam mantra serves as a subtle anchor, expressing the polarity between manifestation and the Ocean of Consciousness. As attention refines, awareness begins to settle into the silent interval between breaths—the same gateway described in Space Between the Breaths Meditation—where duality softens and awareness reveals itself directly.
A key theme of the teaching is the dissolution of resistance. As deeper layers of conditioning surface—karmic tension, emotional holding, and identity patterns—the practitioner is instructed not to engage or suppress them, but to remain open and allow them to be absorbed into awareness. Through sustained relaxation and alignment of will (sankalpa), the illusion of separateness gradually dissolves.
Ultimately, The Awakener culminates in total non-doing: a state in which meditation gives way to effortless being. In this condition, awareness abides in itself—self-luminous, uncontrived, and free from conceptual activity. The practitioner discovers that awakening is not something to be achieved, but something that reveals itself when all effort ceases and consciousness is allowed to rest in its natural state.
