IN THIS TEACHING

Bodhicitta Meditation III introduces a powerful heart-centered practice designed to stabilize consciousness during periods of purification, emotional turbulence, or spiritual transition. Mark Griffin presents bodhicitta—the awakened heart-mind—not simply as compassion or devotional feeling, but as a dynamic spiritual force capable of integrating the entire architecture of the four bodies: physical, subtle energetic, causal, and supracausal.

Within this meditation, bodhicitta functions as a “failsafe” position of consciousness. When intentionally generated, it harmonizes the ascending and descending currents of prana within the central channel, stabilizing the practitioner amidst the often intense energetic shifts that accompany spiritual practice. Rather than suppressing emotional experience, the awakened heart transforms it—purifying afflictive states while giving rise to qualities such as courage, generosity, patience, and unconditional love.

The practice centers on the deep heart space, described as a subtle akasha or inner chamber located behind the sternum where the spontaneous vibration of enlightenment resides. Through disciplined bellows breathing, the practitioner opens the body while energizing the full axis of the sushumna from the base of the spine to the crown. As prana ascends and descends simultaneously, these currents converge within the heart center, generating a magnetic field of spiritual force that balances the dual currents of ida and pingala.

A key component of the meditation is listening to the vibration of SoHam while resting awareness in the space between breaths. This subtle focus reveals the emptiness aspect of bodhicitta, where compassion and wisdom arise as a unified expression of awakened consciousness. In this condition the heart becomes both fulcrum and furnace—gathering, purifying, and redistributing spiritual force throughout the body and mind.

As the energies stabilize within the deep heart, practitioners experience increasing clarity, resilience, and integration. Ultimately, Bodhicitta III teaches that awakening is not anchored in abstraction or transcendence alone, but in the living heart itself—where emptiness, love, prana, and consciousness converge as a single radiant field of awareness.
