IN THIS TEACHING

In Mahashivaratri – The Great Night of Shiva, Mark Griffin presents Mahashivaratri as a powerful threshold-event in which the doorway between consciousness and creation opens, allowing for a direct influx of grace from the infinite Ocean of Consciousness. This sacred night is framed as a rare convergence of cosmic forces, where Shiva—the principle of dissolution, liberation, and awakening—becomes intensely accessible to the practitioner.

Griffin describes Shiva not merely as a deity, but as the force of centrifugal dispersion that dissolves all forms into emptiness, clearing obstacles and revealing the inner essence of consciousness. Through meditation, mantra, and ritual, practitioners engage in a form of Deity Yoga, invoking Shiva as Paramatman so that the qualities of divine awareness arise within the heart-mind. This teaching builds directly upon the vibrational mechanics explored in Om Namah Shivaya.

A central feature of the teaching is the integration of external and internal practice. Externally, traditional ritual elements such as the Shiva lingam, offerings, and sacred recitation create a structured field of devotion. Internally, these gestures are mirrored through breath, attention, bodhicitta, and surrender within the “chalice of the heart,” revealing Tantra’s core principle: outer ritual awakens inner realization.

The practice also incorporates powerful yogic techniques, including bellows breathing, sustained attention, and the repetition of mantra to maintain clarity and endurance throughout the night. As the practice deepens, Kundalini energy rises through the central channel while the crown opens to receive higher states of consciousness, intensifying the experience of Shaktipat and inner transformation.

Ultimately, Mahashivaratri is presented as both a ritual and a revelation—a night in which devotion, discipline, and grace converge. Through sustained practice and openness, the practitioner may experience a profound dissolution of obstacles and a direct recognition of consciousness as the essence of one’s own being.
