“In a certain way, one would say that the Kundalini is most certainly a form of electricity. It operates like electricity when you experience it, but a form of electricity that’s infinitely subtle."
Meditation Master Mark Griffin
Kundalini Intensive #1 is a foundational teaching by Mark Griffin on MahaKundalini as the great creative force operating within the human form and throughout the cosmos. In this Intensive, Kundalini is presented not simply as an inner energy but as the psychodynamic power of awakening itself, pervading the four bodies of the human being—physical, subtle energetic, causal, and supracausal consciousness. The teaching emphasizes meditation on and within this force, inviting practitioners to encounter Kundalini directly through breath, stillness, and the activation of the central circuitry of awareness.
A central theme of the discourse is the intimate relationship between Kundalini and breath. Griffin describes the breath as the first and most accessible expression of PranaShakti, the living current through which vitality and consciousness move through the four bodies. Through the disciplined use of bellows breathing, practitioners learn to open the body as an energetic vessel, activate the ida, pingala, and sushumna, and begin to stabilize attention in the subtle intervals between breaths. These moments of stillness become critical points of spiritual opportunity, where breath, prana, Kundalini, and mind all temporarily come to rest, revealing the doorway to the fourth state of consciousness.
The teaching also presents a clear and expansive map of the subtle body. Griffin describes the two major poles of Kundalini: the coiled serpent at the base of the spine and the deep lake above the crown of the head. Between these poles lies the full spinal and subtle circuitry of awakening, including sushumna, the chakras, and the many fibers of the subtle nervous system that terminate in the brain. As Kundalini begins to move through these channels, the psychodynamic structure of identity is gradually transformed. The subtle body, brain, and mind are saturated with a higher energetic current, eventually producing a shift in the operating basis of perception itself.
A particularly important dimension of the teaching is Griffin’s description of the fourth state, in which awareness begins to directly apprehend the substratum of consciousness. This state is linked to the awakening of the Atman, the subtle “God-particle” or blue pearl, through which the individual identity is drawn into direct relationship with universal consciousness. In this sense, Kundalini is not merely energetic activation but the force that reorients the whole human system toward direct knowledge of reality beyond the ordinary cycles of waking, dream, and deep sleep.
The Intensive is also framed within the larger rhythms of nature, especially the autumnal equinox, which Griffin presents as a powerful moment of descending Shakti in the atmosphere itself. By aligning the meditation with these larger movements of the life force, the teaching reveals Kundalini as both an inner and cosmic process. Within the broader body of Mark Griffin’s teachings, Kundalini Intensive #1 stands as a major orientation to the mechanics of awakening, offering practitioners a powerful introduction to the relationship between breath, subtle body, meditative absorption, and the direct emergence of higher consciousness.
