IN THIS TEACHING

In From the State of Nirvikalpa Samadhi, Mark Griffin frames the intensive as a direct celebration of the Guru and a sustained immersion in Nirvikalpa Samadhi—the supraconscious condition in which the dominance of awareness rests in formless, universal consciousness. Griffin describes Nirvikalpa as the “intuitive knowledge of the highest truth without thought,” where the imputed terms of identity dissolve: even the sense of “I” and conceptual notions of God are extinguished, leaving pure awareness beyond form, quality, time, and space. This state is presented not as a final endpoint, but as the “end of the beginning”—a threshold that grants the practitioner a powerful capacity to unravel the imputed terms of perception and conditioning.

The teaching maps awakening through the Yogatantric framework of the four bodies—physical (matter), subtle physical (energy/prana), causal (mind/mental formation), and supracausal (pure consciousness). Griffin explains how Shaktipat functions like a single drop of curd transforming an entire barrel of milk: once the seed of formless consciousness is injected into the individual perceiver, it cross-pollinates through subconscious, emotional, energetic, and mental layers simultaneously, reshaping identity and dissolving separation as a force of nature. The intensive itself becomes a vehicle of transmission: proximity to the living expression of Nirvikalpa creates a karmic connection that continues to act within the practitioner, accelerating the awakening process through direct exposure, recognition, and repeated meditation.

Griffin also contrasts Savikalpa Samadhi (realization with subtle thought and identity still present) with Nirvikalpa (realization without thought, a “snuffing out” of mind), emphasizing that as the subtle body expands and clears, it draws more of the fourth body—pure formless consciousness—into the three relative bodies. Daily practice is urged as the practical key: relax body, speech, and mind; cycle the breath and the spontaneous soham; and allow the irresistible momentum of awakened consciousness to permeate and transform life in ways that cannot be predicted.
