IN THIS TEACHING

Bodhicitta I – Guided Meditation introduces Mark Griffin’s foundational teaching on bodhicitta as both the ideal of enlightenment and a living structure within the subtle body. Rather than presenting bodhicitta only as a concept of compassion or awakened intention, this meditation reveals it as an embodied tantric reality: the union of heart, mind, breath, consciousness, and the creative force of life. Through direct meditation practice, Griffin guides the practitioner into the inner architecture of the human form, where the heart becomes the seat of integration between body, energy, mind, and awakened awareness.

The teaching begins with posture and breath, emphasizing the straight spine, the central axis of the body, and the bellows breath as a means of deepening attention. As the breath moves, prana and mind move with it; in the space between breaths, however, consciousness becomes clear, still, and glass-like. This interval becomes a doorway into deeper meditation, revealing how breath awareness, prana, and the stilling of mind are woven together in the practice of awakening.

At the center of the teaching is the bodhicitta point in the heart, described as the place where the four bodies converge: the physical body, the subtle energetic body, the causal body of mind and karmic formation, and the light of pure consciousness. From this heart center, bodhicitta connects upward to the white drop at the crown of the head, forming a single structure rather than two separate points. This crown-heart connection becomes one of the central tantric mechanisms of the meditation, linking the ideal of enlightenment with the lived experience of the body.

Griffin also describes bodhicitta as the heart-mind: the union of heart and mind as a complete organ of perception. The mind alone is incomplete, and the heart alone is incomplete; when joined through bodhicitta, they begin to perceive life, karma, grace, and consciousness with greater wholeness. The hundred fibers between the heart and brain—forty-two peaceful energies and fifty-eight wrathful energies—represent the dynamic field through which perception, memory, emotion, karma, and identity are assembled.

Ultimately, Bodhicitta I presents bodhicitta as the tender center of life itself: the place where compassion, truth, love, Guru’s grace, and the force of awakening arise together. It is both a method of practice and a revelation of enlightenment already present within the human form. As the first teaching in the Bodhicitta meditation series, this guided meditation establishes the essential foundation for understanding bodhicitta as a tantric path of transformation, a subtle-body structure, and a direct gateway into awakened consciousness.
